Technical Website Audit

For websites built by another agency, by you or with AI. I check the website from the inside: domain and hosting, security and backups, speed, inquiry forms, search and legal requirements. You get a list of what to fix and in what order, plus a clear answer on whether I’ll take the website on for Website Care.

01 — When you need it

Why people come to me

  • Your developer disappeared

An agency or a freelancer built the site, and now they don’t reply to emails. It’s unclear where the hosting is and who renews the domain.

  • You built it yourself or with AI

The website works, but you’re afraid to touch it: what to update, what might break, and whether there’s a backup if it goes down.

  • You’d like to hand the website over to me

For Website Care, so you don’t have to think about it anymore. Websites I didn’t build, I take on after a technical audit: that shows how much work they’ll need.

  • Something is already wrong

The website is slow, form emails don’t arrive, your host sends warnings. You’d like to know how serious it is before paying for repairs.

02 — What’s included

What I check

I look at the website from the inside, with access to the admin panel, hosting and domain: things visitors don’t see, but which decide whether the website can be maintained going forward.

  1. 01

    Ownership and access

Domain, hosting and admin panel: are they registered to you or to your previous developer, and who renews the domain and when.

  2. 02

    Platform and plugins

Versions of the platform or website builder, theme and plugins: what’s outdated, what’s been abandoned by its developers, and whether any are pirated copies instead of paid ones.

  3. 03

    Security

Malicious code, unnecessary users with admin rights, access still held by previous developers.

  4. 04

    Backups

Whether they exist, how often they’re made and where they’re stored. A backup on the same server can be lost along with the website.

  5. 05

    Speed

Measurements on mobile and desktop, and what exactly slows the site down: images, hosting or unnecessary scripts.

  6. 06

    Inquiry forms

I send a test inquiry from every form: does the email arrive, does it land in spam, and where do inquiries go next.

  7. 07

    Legal requirements

Imprint, privacy policy, cookie consent. And whether consent actually works: analytics shouldn’t start before the visitor agrees.

  8. 08

    Search and analytics

Whether search engines can see the website: indexing, sitemap, pages hidden from search. Whether analytics counts visits and inquiries.

03 — Result

What you get

I send a written report 3 business days after I receive access.

  • A list sorted by importance

What I found, what risk it poses and what to do about it. Each item is marked: urgent, within the next month, or can wait. In plain language, no jargon.

  • Who owns what

Where the domain, hosting and service accounts are, and whose name they’re registered in. I don’t put passwords in the report.

  • An estimate for fixes

Each fix is estimated in hours, so you can see what it costs to get the website in order. You can hand the list to any developer.

04 — What’s next

One of three conclusions

The report ends with a conclusion: whether I’ll take the website on for Website Care and on what terms.

  • Conclusion 1

    I’ll take it as is

    €149$199 per month

The website moves to Website Care: hosting and daily backups, updates and security, legal pages kept up to date, up to 2 hours of edits a month. Add-ons are priced in the calculator, about 20% cheaper for subscribers.

  • Conclusion 2

    I’ll take it after fixes

    €100$125 per hour

The report comes with an estimate for fixes in hours, and I start work once you agree. When the website is in order, it moves to Website Care, and an hour of work then costs €80$99. If the website also needs work to start bringing in sales, website improvement is the right fit.

  • Conclusion 3

    It’s better to rebuild

    from €490$590

If fixes would cost more than a new website, I’ll tell you straight and show you both estimates. A new subscription website: Quick Launch for €490$590 or Full Development Cycle for €2,900$3,490; moving your content over is priced separately.

    Website Subscription →

Whatever the conclusion, you pay for hosting and the domain yourself, directly.

06 — Questions

Questions and answers

Q1How is a technical audit different from the free checkup?

The free checkup looks at the website from the outside, without access: what stops visitors from sending an inquiry and what anyone can see. A technical audit looks from the inside, with access: who owns the domain, whether there are backups, whether there’s malicious code, whether form emails arrive. And at the end, I tell you whether I’ll take the website on for Website Care.

Q2Will you tell me why I get so few leads?

I’ll check the technical side: whether form emails arrive, whether speed is a problem, whether search engines can see the website. Why visitors leave without sending an inquiry is what the free checkup shows. And who your customer is, what to offer them and where to find them is a job for a marketing strategy.

Q3Why do I need an audit if I only want Website Care?

With Website Care, I’m responsible for keeping the website running, and for that I need to know how it’s built. I know the websites I built, so there’s no setup fee for them. For all others, the technical audit serves as the setup fee.

Q4Is it safe to give you access?

Create a separate account for me instead of sending your own password: after the report, it’s easy to delete. I don’t change anything on the website without your consent; I only send test inquiries from the forms. If I need to install something for the check, I’ll ask first and remove it afterwards.

Q5What if you say everything needs to be rebuilt?

I only suggest a rebuild when fixes would cost more than a new website, and I show you both estimates. If the website can be maintained as is, that’s what I’ll write.

Q6My website is on a website builder or was built with AI. Will you take it?

I check whether that platform allows me to do what I’m responsible for under Website Care: backups, updates, security and edits. If it does, I’ll take it. If not, the conclusion will include an estimate for a new website with your content moved over.

Q7I don’t know where the hosting is or whose name the domain is in.

That’s where we’ll start. From the website address, I’ll find the domain registrar and the host and show you how to regain access. The audit timeline starts on the day I have access.

Q8Can I order just the audit, without Website Care?

Yes. The report and the estimate are yours to keep: you can have the fixes done by me, do them yourself or hire another developer.
